In
any group there are bound to be differences in experience, training, knowledge,
status, or power. In spite of these
differences every body in the group should be encouraged to participate in
giving inputs. People who consider
themselves superior over others because of any of the above mentioned traits,
actually shut those with less power, influence, or expertise out of the
process, to the detriment of all (Harris & Sherblom, 2011).
For
an effective group process there has to be sense of equality. Asking everyone for their perspective on the
main issue is the best way to go about because sometimes the most unlikely
person comes up with great creative insights.
In the best interest of the group all members should be encouraged to
participate in the group (Harris & Sherblom, 2011).
In
places where superiority plays over equality the members with less power
develop a complex and the group as a whole misses on important insights. Whereas the group that supports equality
fosters equal participation by all members in voicing their opinions, and ideas
to make the process more vibrant.
Hey!
ReplyDeleteI really liked your post! You did an excellent job of explaining the differences of superiority and equality, and how they can damage a group and it's process. I definitely agree with you when you said that despite people's differences, everyone should be encouraged to offer input and share their ideas. Being involved in a group where one person thinks they know everything and that they are superior is really intimidating and doesn't get anything accomplished. I also agree with you when you stated that for a group to be effective, there needs to be a sense of equality, and that everyone's voice and opinion matters. Nice job on your post!

Hi Spring Blogger,
ReplyDeleteI really liked your post and the points you made about superiority and equality. I believe its true that there will be a difference in “experience, training, knowledge, status, or power.” This in itself will create a divide or create an order to the group as well as how it is organized. People will often use their experience and status to self promote themselves above group members simple because they have done it before or have knowledge of it. In some ways being in a group with people who have done a project and have prior experience I am quick to let them lead the way and let us in on their knowledge. I do agree that groups should have a feeling of equality but in life nothing is ever fair or equal. Few members will make decisions, few people’s voices will be heard and the work will be distributed unequally.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the concept that you choose to discuss this week. I found that to be interesting to and would agree that in any group, there is going to be differences. Equality is something that everyone should strive for and they should treat everyone the same, that way people won’t feel left out. Asking everyone for their perspective is a great thing, because like you said, someone could have a great creative insight about it and you wouldn’t know unless you asked everyone. Superiority is never fun in a group setting and it hurts the creative insight of others, that’s why it is important to be equal like you mentioned. Great post!
